Take Time to Care: Using potatoes on your skin.

It's very rare that you'll ever find a post about beauty products on this site. I'm just not a beauty product kind of girl! Sometimes I think I'm missing out on all the fun, but I just can't get into it. I rely on my beauty girl-friends to get me to paint my nails, cover-up my grey, and be aware of my VPL (I didn't say fix-it, though!!). Without them, I'd be hosed!

With that being said, I have a beauty product recommendation: POTATOES!!!! No I'm not drinking. It's true. Potatoes are a great skin product. I was going through all my Grandma's recipes scattered through multiple boxes and books. In them, there was a clipping that talked about potatoes helping your skin. It intrigued me so much that I did a Google search.

Come to find out, this old cut-out was right! Potatoes are good for your skin. My brief research (check out Associated Content) shows that potatoes are often found in cosmetics under the name of solanum tuberosum (potato). It appears that this (magical) food item not only nourishes us, but it also: helps acne, reduces scars, lightens dark circles, and tightens skin. Seriously???? Could a dermatologist not have told me this YEARS ago? I've spent thousands of dollars at dermatologists and no one has told me to buy a potato.

While my husband was out-of-town last week, I decided I had nothing to loose by trying this crazy potato idea. Every other night, I sliced my potato super thin and went upstairs to lay in bed and read while lounging. I placed the potato slices all over my face and laid there. Without telling my husband anything about this experiment, he (without any prompting at all!) told me my skin looked great. WhooHooo!!!!

I decided to keep up the routine with him back home since it was producing great improvement in my acne and my acne scars. The first night I was laying there with my potatoes, by husband looked at me and cracked up! I died laughing, too, and had to start all over placing them perfectly. The next time, I tried grating the potatoes. This was much less funny looking.

Ideally, I would have taken before and after pictures, but I didn't think to do that. Trust me, though, potatoes have helped my skin. Even my husband noticed.

So here's the regime: put a brown potato on your skin for about ten minutes after you've washed your face. If you use the slices, you probably don't need to rinse anything off. If you use the shredded, you'll need to rinse your face off. Put moisturizer on afterwards and head to bed! NOTE: I am NOT responsible if you don't like your results! It's worked for me and I hope it works for you, too, but I'm not to blame if it doesn't.

Next, I'm going to try using sweet potatoes. I've read it brightens your skin! I can't express how excited I am about this simple and cheap acne helping find!!!!

Wow! I love it! I have something to add to the wonder of potatoes - they help out when you burn yourself with the stove or oven as well! Now, not when you burn the %$#& out of yourself, you can't use it when there's an open wound. But if the skin is still intact, cut off a bit of a raw potato and hold it on there for about 10 minutes. The next day, you'll wonder why you have a slightly tender spot on your thumb, completely forgetting that you burned yourself! (This is a true story ;) )
