My allergy daughter will happily eat Sloppy Joes! I make these about once every 10 days for her in an attempt to keep up her iron.
1 pound pastured ground beef or buffalo
touch of oil
half an organic onion, diced
chili powder (I like Whole Foods b/c all ingredients are listed)
7 ounces of organic tomato sauce (I like Trader Joe's)
Organic Ketchup (I normally get Whole Food's)
Method:
Heat a touch of oil in the pan. Add diced onions until soft (I'm not too picky on their color, but I know some people would say "not browned;" I don't think it matters). Throw in however much chili powder your family is comfortable with; you can omit this if you're allergic to any of the spices which will give you a sweet sloppy joe). Brown the meat on medium high heat until cooked through. Add tomato sauce, ketchup to taste, and salt and pepper to taste. Let cook for at least five minutes until thickened. Serve on favorite hot dog or hamburger buns (I like the organic ones at Whole Foods b/c they have few ingredients).
If you're out of onions, no problem, just omit them. If you're out of tomato sauce, you probably shouldn't make the recipe. If you use all ketchup, then you'll get way too sweet of a sandwich!

Sloppy Joe mixture is also good over leftover pasta. I plan to try your recipe.
